Launched in 1949 by Motobecane of France as the Mobylette this charming little moped became very popular with production numbers exceeding 14 million by 1997 when production ceased. The 49cc air cooled engine offered a top speed of between 25 and 40 mph depending on the model, which could be any one of a numerous selection of identifying digits.

This 49cc AV59 Mobylette was first registered on 19 August 1969. It was imported to the UK from Switzerland in 1982 by its then owner, hence the X registration number suffix. It remained in that ownership for over thirty years, mostly in dry storage, and is in remarkably original condition, having never been restored. It was purchased earlier this year by an Australian enthusiast who very quickly returned the moped to running order. He intended to export it to Australia, but the red tape at both ends of the journey persuaded him otherwise, so the Mobylette is now again offered for sale.

The history file contains a handbook (in German), old MOT test certificates, a SORN document, a copy of Buzzing magazine, a copy of its Swiss registration document, two old V5Cs and the current V5C registration certificate.
